Exotic Flowers

Information on exotic flower delivery, exotic flowers and various types of flower delivery services

Flowers come in all types, shapes, colors, and fragrances. But perhaps the most beautiful and unusual variety is exotic flowers. If you live in the United States outside of Hawaii, New Mexico, or California or the British Isles, you are highly unlikely to find most varieties of exotic flowers growing wild in the back garden. Exotic flowers differ greatly from standard blooms such as geraniums, carnations, and tulips.

Examples of exotic flowers include the amaryllis, the orchid, and the bird of paradise. Others are unusual varieties of more familiar blooms, such as the calla lily, Ecuadorian roses, and oriental lilies. A bouquet of exotic flowers, arranged in the right way, can make an original, fragrant, and breathtaking gift for anyone.

Some exotic flowers are grown in the United States. These include the famous lily of the valley, which has the Latin name “convallis,” meaning a “closed valley,” referring to its natural habitat. The lily of the valley naturally grows along the coastline of Santa Barbara, California. This south-western state is also home to the dark violet Californian lilac.

Other varieties of exotic flowers come from further afield, such as the amaryllis, which is a beautiful red-orange color and comes from South Africa. Ecuadorian roses are grown in the South American country of Ecuador and are one of the highest quality species of rose on the market. The calla lily, which grows in several colors, is grown in a variety of locations, including Europe, New Zealand, and South America.

One of the best ways to make the most of your exotic flowers is to put them in the right type of vase. Choose your vase carefully, making sure that it blends with the strong colors of the particular exotic flower within, rather than clashing. For instance, a fiery amaryllis will blend very well with a delicate Chinese vase, while a white anthurium (usually grown in Hawaii) is offset best with a classic glass vase.

Similarly, you should find an ideal location for your exotic flowers. Depending on where and how you place them, they can either make a table arrangement look overblown and cluttered, or they can be the centerpiece of your supper or coffee table. Experiment with placing and arranging them, and you will hopefully not be disappointed.

So where and how do you purchase exotic flowers? One option is to look in your local telephone directory and find out whether your local high street florist sells them. You may find that you have to look slightly further afield and buy them from a flower specialist. This might not always work out for you, as exotic flowers can be quite fragile and are easily damaged in transit. Another way is to search the Internet. These days, flowers, like everything else, can be ordered on line, saving you a lot of unnecessary legwork and hassle.

Either way, you will not regret your decision to decorate your home with exotic flowers. They bring color, variety, and joy to any living room or lounge, especially during the cold winter months, and they could never be described as boring.
